It’s more than a tee-shirt and it’s definitely more than a design. Wearing something that says I’m 100% Sober or a I am staying drug free is a sense of empowerment, and that’s exactly what this recovery movement needs. It needs a sense of lifestyle, and a positive one at that! It’s a culture, and a culture worth indulging in. So grab your friends and scream, “Positive lifestyle is more than you think! I DO BELIEVE!”
I wake up every morning telling myself, “How can I further help those around me, and myself, to become aware of the need for recovery in the world, just for today?” Then the next thing I do is kiss my wife good morning and roll out of bed to get a holistic tea and some protein for breakfast. You see? Already living clean.
By now I’m still in my underwear but heading for the shower. I get in the hot steamy shower and feel my body waking itself up from the power of living and loving another day clean and sober, but I haven’t done much about it yet. When I get out of the shower my wife has already laid out my clothing for the day. She usually picks one of her favorite three shirts, “High on Life, Stay Drug Free, or any of my four 100% sober tees/tanks.”
By now I’m ready to go out and take names and kick some butt. But let’s not get sidetracked here, I am walking around with a sense of empowerment on my chest, right above my heart. The funny thing is that I don’t even know it, because I’m not the one looking at the shirt. But I can definitely feel it!
Others are glancing around and I know what some are thinking, and then I have no idea what any one else is thinking. But the power of this is that I’m not just wearing a tee-shirt. I am representing a code, or way of life if you will. I am representing a “lifestyle.” And that’s what these sobriety and drug free tees represent, “Positive Living.”
Positive living is something that people in the recovery community and people who are just living day to day should get into. Why? Because recovery effects more than those who are doing the recovery. It effects your Grandma and her dogs. It effects your neighbor whom you didn’t know was secretly a hoarder, or your aunt who wakes up to a shot every morning. Recovery also effects our youth, or children, and the younger one’s who are growing up and looking to their elders for support.
The other day I had given a friend a sober hat that I have for Substance For You and he remarks to me, “Man, I lost my hat! But in a good way…” So I asked him what he meant, I needed to know more! He said, “As soon as I got home, my daughter took my sober hat and she’s been wearing it ever since! And you know what Brian? She is only 10 years old.” That is what we call a miracle, or blessing in disguise, my friends!
As you see it’s not just about wearing the tee, and not just about having a “sick” design. It’s about those small little impacts that will eventually change a persons life forever, leading from person to person, while spreading this movement even further.
I don’t do what I do with my clothing line to sell tees, it’s just not something I ever envisioned myself doing to be completely honest. But helping people? That is something I definitely have always wanted to do since getting clean. And once I saw the positivity that anyone in recovery or even your third cousin Sally who has no connection to addiction can get from a positive lifestyle brand’s shirt or sense of lifestyle in it’s own, then by God it is 100% worth it to be and wear 100% sober! It’s a way to spread the message to not just people in recovery, but a way to spread the message to those who can help change the world, save lives, and make lives better. That’s what a movement is all about!
That’s why it’s more than a tee-shirt. That is why it’s more than just having a cool design. That is why it is a lifestyle brand, not just someone trying to sell you something. I’m more than that… wait, WE are more than that, together. Together we are changing the world right now! And it’s important to know, the empowerment comes from you spreading that good message. So don’t you ever forget it and what a lifestyle brand truly represents my friends… that is the most important element to this recovery movement. And that essence will in fact, and is already, saving lives.
Go out there and save some more lives!
