It’s true, I don’t get paid a single dime for any of this. What is this you’re asking? Recovery, duh! And yeah, I really don’t get paid a single dime to be better. Although, I would be lying if I said I didn’t get paid at all…
I get paid in so many other things than money for working on my recovery. Are you starting to see the correlation? I “work” for my recovery, but I don’t get “paid” for it in money. If you can’t see it, here’s a breakdown ya’ll.
I get paid in a healthy atmosphere around me, just by doing the things I can do to be better then I was in addiction. I work so very hard for that! I work each and everyday on things that I did wrong in the previous day. It may be a one day at a time program, but don’t forget that I’m taking a moral inventory with each and every account I make. It’s like a soulful “bank account.” All of it does sound a little bit like money, but it’s so much more than that!
I also get a happy wife because if I were using she would be scared for me; and probably herself. She would be horrified if I’d come home in a terrible state of being, or even worse, dead. Now, while I work on my recovery I actually get a taste of what it’s like to have a great healthy relationship in my life that I work for. I go all out on this one. She means the world to me! It really does “pay off” too. Her smile is like a currency, her touch is like a bonus, and her love is the ultimate gift! And what’s the best part? It’ll never fade if I continue to work on growing in my recovery.
What else do I get? Well, I can remember a mother who was broken down, beaten, and bruised while I’d come home and say, “Hey mom, I relapsed.” But, this time? I came home last week from my pending graduation and said, “Hey mom, I’m graduating from college with Magnum Cum Laude. Hey mom, I work at helping people, and yah know what? I’m healthier than I’ve ever been! Hey mom, I love you!” That right there is something to be proud of. It’s more than a payout! It’s a free moment where I get to say, “Damn right! I’m friggen high on life now! But oh no, I am not using or abusing to gain it… I am loved!” That right there is how recovery is truly working in my life, as I work on it! That’s really the kind of money I wanna be making!
But wait! There’s more…
Remember how I said that I was healthy, or am healthy? Yeah, you get it right? I sound pretty mentally healthy, but what about the physical part? That’s pretty darn awesome too! Each weight that I lift is like a brownie dollar to life. It’s saying, “Hey dude, good job on working for more! Keep pushing. Harder, harder, harder. You’ve earned it! And… Set complete! Ready, round two… three… and more!” Okay but now you’re saying, “But a lot of people work out!” And my only reply to say to you is that because of recovery I am 100% o’naturale! I can eat without worrying about getting a fix, while all the time I’m getting that rad protein in, too! Today? I’m pushing that bench to the max! I hit 12-15 repetitions of 225 pounds for 4 sets! I set a new record; heck I was even sore the next day, and it may sound like I’m bragging, but that’s how we know it’s working! We know it’s working because I actually have something that I’m proud of to you. And that hurt? It’s a building block, it’s my gains, it’s my currency! I’m recovery fit, yo!
Now I bet that you’re thinking, “This dude is full of himself!” Well I wouldn’t say you’re wrong, because I’m full of love and hard earned, worked, and paid off recovery! But, I don’t stop there. I keep on pushing, more weights, more I love you’s, more of a “happy wife, happy life” days! I keep going for it all. And no I’m not paid a single darn bit of $$ money for this! And it’s so much better that way! I’m recovery fit, yo! I’m recovery fit!
