A Nurse in Recovery: Tiffany's Clarity

It had been a couple years since my graduation from nursing school when I heard a rumor at work that some of the staff had been drinking on the job. My good friend, also a nurse in the department, had called me in a panic the next day and said that she overheard there was potluck and someone said the cider was spiked. Too shocked and nervous to tell anyone, she did not go to the supervisors that night. I felt like it couldn’t be true. Deeply ingrained in my soul was the belief that nurses were essentially perfect. As...

Are There Drugs in This?

My immune system was shot when I first got clean. First I suffered from drug induced Tourette’s Syndrome, because of the dopamine drop of all the drugs I was on. My damn face wouldn’t stop twitching! It looked like little mini facial seizures and tics that would spread into my arms. Dopamine drops can be a bitch! But, hey… drugs are bad, right? On top of my addiction I was obese, but that didn’t last long. When I got clean I became anorexic and pretty soon it hurt to eat. I lost 115 pounds in 11 months. Lucky me! I...

Six Years Clean and a Merry Christmas!

I wasn’t only rejoicing for me but I was rejoicing for the sanity of my mother and health of my father. Frankly, this was the first year that one, or both, of her sons hasn’t spent in the hospital. That alone is a blessing. But to say that I’ve been actively working on my recovery for six years now is a...

One Direction Saved My Life!

Hi, my name is Claudia and I'm still on this Earth because of 5 boys who are/were in a band called One Direction. You see, I'm 19 now. But when I was 10 my life was totally different than it is now. When I was 10, I was getting stabbed, beaten and punched at school. Verbally abused, or just straight up ignored. When I was 10 I went to one birthday party and I spent the whole party locked in a dog cage in pitch black darkness, by myself. So, when I was 10, I discovered my best friend. My...

The Key to Keeping My Husband Sober Is…

My wife has had a very influential experience in my recovery, there is no denying that! When we first met I was in recovery, but I wasn’t necessarily practicing it to its fullest extent. But when love conquers most things in this world it’s easy to say that she was a pivotal turning point for me to kick my recovery into full gear. I’m not joking either! I was a hot mess when we met, just getting out of the hospital, 2 years sober, with blood clots among other health ailments. But it seemed once we met, got serious, and...
