Teaching Reinforcement Skills for Recovery

addiction employable help hit Lifestyle Negative positive Recovery reinforcement self worth skill skills tip tips

Recovery tip #18323ABC920.222XYZ. Well, you get the point. Here is another useful thing to help you in early recovery or in any aspect of your recovery. Heck, you don’t even have to be in recovery to do this one. You could have gone through some cataclysmic life-courtesy of cohuttahealingarts.com recovery Teaching Reinforcement Skills for Recovery passion to purpose to professionaltering event (i.e. jumping on a firework for example) and in need of some spiritual healing! This will help.

I always do a lot of writing, you all can tell that by my website(s), books, and short stories. The thing with me though is, I still get writers block, and I still get into moments in my life where I play the pity party.

There are times in my life where I just want to feel completely miserable for myself. I'd done something to piss so-and-so off and my day just sucked. Granted I’m clean and sober, then when I fall into these negative mindsets I'm doing the opposite of working on my recovery. During these parties of pity, I’m going back to the same old behavior that I was in when I was using and abusing in my active addiction.

So, how do we fix this type of negativity? Well, some would say pray on it, but sometimes that’s just speaking to a higher power and you’re not seeing the physical and concrete action right in your face… some people need that.

There are methods that I’ve learned along the way that I want to pass on to you. I want to spread this message of addiction, hope, courtesy of allabouttipsblog.files.wordpress.com recovery Teaching Reinforcement Skills for Recovery blog 3and recovery while I live by the philosophy that Substance For You was founded on. There is a specific way I was “raised” in my recovery family, and it does me no good to keep it all to myself.

If there has been one thing my recovery family was always keen on it has been writing. But, with writing there are always different sorts of methods. There is the typical gratitude list that I have covered in a previous article.

There are also other methods of writing. Other methods that employ things like self-discovery. We can all write creatively and figure out our own path through creative journalism or just creative writing. I myself write short stories to help that process along. I use metaphors in my writing while I even do tributes to people that I’ve either met and/or are fallen icons of mine. It helps me to get out of myself.

But, the method I will be showing you in this article is a form of positive and negative reinforcement. First we will start off with the easy one. Negative Reinforcement.

I like to start this list with a common phrase to stick with throughout and then build upon themes for each phrase. With each phrase, the theme builds to the next one, almost like a story, or a ‘would you rather’ kind of game (but not the college type).

The common phrase I like to use sometimes when writing in this manner is this one:

“This is Where I’d be if I took one last hit…”

1.This is where I’d be if I took one last hit…
a.If I took one last hit I’d probably be on disability from physical ailments and unable to keep    a job like I was last time I got high.

2. This is where I’d be if I took one last hit…
a. If I took one last hit I would have gotten my ex-pregnant out of wedlock and gone against my own personal moral code.

3. This is where I’d be if I took one last hit…
a. I’d be hooked dealing drugs and owing drug dealers money causing my family fear in their lives, and the constant need to look over their shoulders.

4. This is where I’d be if I took one last hit…
a. I’d be in prison and my life would be gone to an 11 by 11 cell and three meals a day to a cot. (End mass incarceration! Just sayin’)

5. This is where I’d be if I took one last hit…
a. If I took one last hit I would have contracted AIDs or Hepatitis C because I always shared needles and then would have already been dead by now

6. This is where I’d be if I took one last hit…
a. If I took one last hit I’d not have my mental health issues attended to and end up in a mental hospital (probably for the rest of my life)

7. This is where I’d be if I took one last hit…
a. If I took one last hit I’d be a government employed narc and possibly get a hit out on my life for doing such a thing.

8. This is where I’d be if I took one last hit…
a. If I took one last hit I’d not be able to start a family because I wouldn’t even be able to take care of myself.

9. This is where I’d be if I took one last hit…
a. I’d lose contact with my family because I had my one last chance with them. I don’t get any more other chances, I’d lose them forever.

10. This is where I’d be if I took one last hit…
a. If I took one last hit I’d be dead. Why? Well, the doctor that has saved my life on three separate occasions said, “Son if you use one more time, you’ll die.” So, I tend to believe him and owe him my gratitude for helping me.
i. He saved me from blood clots, an autoimmune disorder with full body nerve damage, and drug-induced tics.

This is my list of negative reinforcement, of where I could end my life if I were to take that one last hit. I like to take these back in my mind and say… “Nope, it’s not worth it!”

Next I will show you a list of positive reinforcement that I like to do. This one will be the stages of what becomes of me if I continue to work on my recovery. Here is that list now:

“If I continue to work on my recovery I will be…”

1. If I continue to work on my recovery I will be…
a. I will be employable

2. If I continue to work on my recovery I will be…
a. There for my family and loved ones who have always wanted me there, because I know I love them so much.

3. If I continue to work on my recovery I will be…
a. Self Sufficient and capable of working on my own personal inventory in life

4. If I continue to work on my recovery I will be…
a. Gaining new positive friends who want me for me.

5. If I continue to work on my recovery I will be…
a. Never chasing something, I can’t fully have. If I work on my recovery I will have that perfect something all the time.

6. If I continue to work on my recovery I will be…
a. Physically, mentally, spiritually, and psychologically healthy

7. If I continue to work on my recovery I will be…
a. Of great asset not only to this world but to myself, and that’s what matters most.

8. If I continue to work on my recovery I will be…
a. Able to start a family and do my part to contribute to making others happy

9. If I continue to work on my recovery I will be…
a. Exactly the person that I (yes me personally) has always wanted to be!

10. If I continue to work on my recovery I will be…
a. ALIVE! SO SO SO ALIVE!

Here is a list of positive reinforcement skills that are applicable in your day-to-day routine whether you are recovering, or you just need to replace a few words and do it for betterment in some other purpose.

With both lists combined you can print out two separate sheets of paper and weigh the consequences. You’ve not only done things like meditate and pray on your reservations without even knowing it, but you now have concrete data of why recovery will 110% work for you!recovery Teaching Reinforcement Skills for Recovery images q tbn ANd9GcSYTEY9hTq80eJjI9aTnevLqdjjgxXdwQ4VieLY7p95BnIJkGGWbQRecovery is possible, you just have to believe in yourself. I am here to tell you… It is possible.
