How Supplements Put me on the Fast Track to Recovery...

"The initial act of stopping the use of drugs and alcohol is not the hard part of overcoming addiction…well, at least it wasn’t for me."

My name is Blake and I'm an alcoholic and an addict. Although, I choose to label myself with such titles as “alcoholic” and/or “addict,” I’ve realized that I'm so much more than what those titles insinuate. What I am, who I am, and why I am have all been molded by living a life of active recovery in which I choose to take a daily inventory of myself in an attempt make constant progress towards the type of person I’ve always seen myself becoming.

But now back to what I was saying earlier. Stopping using was never the issue for me while I was in my active addiction. The ‘issue’ for me lied in staying stopped! I found that once my use of substances came to a halt, I would have no energy and would be living life in a fog-like state. I would be depressed, anxious, and completely restless. Probably worst of all, though, I could not sleep! I'd be lucky if I got an hour of sleep each night.

The post-acute withdrawals and underlying disorders of depression or anxiety would become too overbearing for me and I always knew there would be one thing (or many) that would end my suffering. I would relapse and find myself in the same, or worse, situation than I was prior to the last time I stopped using.

When I made my final attempt at sobriety I decided to take an interest in what was causing the issues that would lead to my relapse in the past. With the help of a wonderful treatment center, I learned about the chemical imbalances and deficiencies that were occurring in my mind and body. I learned that certain neurotransmitters in my brain weren’t producing in the way that they should be, which was leading me to suffer from depression, anxiety, restlessness, low energy…the list can go on forever. I learned that my body was lacking nutrients such as B-Vitamins or magnesium which stemmed from my unhealthy habits while in active addiction.

Searching for something that will promote relief from these symptoms I began asking around to some of the professionals I was working with at the time. With the help of a psychiatrist, it was decided that I didn’t require formal prescription medications (not that anything is wrong with them, I happen to believe they work wonders for people who need them…I just didn’t). It was explained to me that there were nutritional supplements that I could be taking that will help to improve my functioning post-stabilization period, during my first couple years of recovery. I was provided with a list of amino acids, vitamins, minerals, and nutrients that could naturally push me towards the relief I was searching for. They were meant to be a tool in my tool box to use along with a number of other tactics that were provided to me to help ensure long-lasting recovery.

The supplements were working for me, I was able to fall asleep and stay asleep, felt more focused throughout the day, had long lasting energy, etc… But there quickly became a major roadblock for me. Actually, two roadblocks. One was that, for someone in early recovery and in my mid-20s, the price of all these different supplements was too much for me. I think I had to buy close to ten bottles a month of different supplements which came out to about $150 every 30 days! The other issue was that the amount of pills I had to take everyday to get the desired effect was definitely a choking hazard. I basically had to have 911 on speed dial every time I went to take my daily doses.

So because of those two issues, I had to stop taking them after a couple months and really rely heavily on the other “tools” that were provided to me. For me that ended well, and now, years later, I am writing this. Not everyone will be so fortunate though. Some will cave to the physical and mental pressures we are subject to in early recovery.

Now years later I thought back on my struggles with supplements early on and wondered if there was a solution to my roadblocks. The supplements helped me so much and I want other people to experience what I did, naturally. That is why I’ve gotten together with an addiction psychologist and an experienced nutritionist and created Liquid Recovery Nutrition, LLC.

Liquid Recovery Nutrition, LLC offers two formulas: LiQcovery: AM Formula and LiQcovery: PM Formula. These two powdered drink mixes are packed with amino acids, vitamins, minerals, and more that were carefully selected to help promote the same type of relief I experienced from supplements early in my recovery but WITHOUT the financial headache (or choking hazard).

Providing you with these natural choices that may help in bringing you back towards healthy levels of functioning while tasting great and not breaking your bank have become my life mission.

Recovery is the most beautiful gift you can give yourself. It’s the gift of freedom from the shackles substances have put on you. It’s the freedom to enjoy what life has to offer you. It’s the freedom to find the real you and show it off to the whole world. Most importantly, it’s the freedom to find the happiness you’ve been searching for.

So why not give yourself the best chance at this and utilize every tool that’s at your disposal?

Thanks for letting me share.
